Andrea Joseph is a PhD student at the University of Washington under Dr. Elizabeth Nance. With her background in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, she studies the effect of disease on the brain microenvironment and engineers nanoparticles for optimal targeting and penetration of the diseased area. Currently, she is developing antioxidant-loaded nanoparticles for application in a preclinical model of neonatal hypoxic-ischemia, the leading cause of death in the newborn period. She loves working with kids and is excited for a career in clinically relevant research for the neonatal and pediatric populations. When she is not working, Andrea can probably be found on the tennis courts, but she also loves going to concerts and sports games!
