Summary

A novel geometric system consisting of an inner immediate release mid layer and two extended release barrier layers with swellable hydrophilic polymers was investigated for once-a-day formulation.1 In this system, aqueous medium rapidly penetrates to the mid layer of water-soluble excipients and the two barrier layers swell to wrap the mid layer. Considering these geometric properties of this system, various physical properties were evaluated for drug release monitoring and also Raman imaging was used for real-time imaging of the drug release.
