Assistant Professor
Juan Aparicio-Blanco is an Assistant Professor of Biopharmaceutics, Pharmacokinetics and Pharmaceutical Technology at the Pharmaceutics and Food Technology Department at the Complutense University of Madrid (Spain) since 2019. He holds a MSc in Pharmacy (2012, Valedictorian) and a PhD in Pharmacy (2018) from Complutense University. His PhD thesis was awarded with a prize by the Spanish Royal Academy of Doctors. He has likewise been awarded the Seal of Excellence Marie Sklodowska-Curie for Individual Fellowships (2018) by the European Commission, and the prizes Juan Abelló (2018), Alcalíber (2020) and GSK (2021) by the Spanish National Royal Academy of Pharmacy. His research interests include the development of drug delivery systems for the treatment of distinct diseases of the central nervous system, cancer and prosthetic infections. Moreover, his research is focused on the controlled delivery of cannabinoids with lipid-based carriers. He has been a visiting researcher at the University of Angers (2015), the Open University (2016-17) and the Instituto Italiano di Tecnologia (2022) and a postdoctoral fellow at University of Navarra (2019). Since 2021, he is a Member of the Young Scientist Committee of the Controlled Release Society, for which he serves as the Focus Groups/Local Chapters Liaison since 2023. He enjoys the opportunity of joining multidisciplinary and international teams to share perceptions from various scientific backgrounds in a synergistic manner to identify new therapeutic opportunities. Outside the lab, apart from an avid reader, he is always willing to meet new people keen on thinking outside the box.
