Profile: Kristina Friis

Kristina Friis, Ph.D., is an Associate Principal Scientist within Advanced Drug Delivery, Pharmaceutical Sciences at AstraZeneca in Gothenburg, Sweden. Kristina joined AstraZeneca in 2017 and has since then been supporting inhaled drug projects in the new modalities space as well as small molecules. In her research she has been focusing on developing novel lipid nanoparticle (LNP) formulations for delivery of nucleotide-based therapeutics and the optimization of the process from lipid synthesis to preclinical testing. In addition, she has led an interdisciplinary collaboration within AstraZeneca to create an LNP formulation that can be spray dried for functional and safe delivery of mRNA to the lungs. Currently she is serving as pharmaceutical science technical lead of inhaled projects within the Respiratory & Immunology therapy area. Kristina has a big passion for science, cross-disciplinary collaborations and is deeply engaged in paving the way for the future generation of young scientists through mentoring and supervision.

Prior to joining AstraZeneca, Kristina earned her PhD in molecular biology from Aarhus University, Denmark and held an academic post-doc position in the field of neurology and gene therapy at Harvard University and Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, US.
